I had the pleasure of hunting on this beautiful day with the Drake Taker and my cousin. We saw at least 10,000 ducks and geese, and none of them came into our spread...they were everywhere, but they had no intention of commiting to us. It drove me a little crazy to be in position and to see that many birds and not get to shoot any. We called, and called, and called some more. Any who, I had a nice time with a couple of great fellas. Here are some pictures-

Loading up some Bigfoot dekes-

Mike holding DT's pup, named Dakota...I really liked this dog

Drake Takers trailer. His dekes were first rate, gotta love those Dakota Decoys -

Starting the hard work involved in setting up a spread-

There are 3 layout blinds in this picture

Pictures of the spread-

notice the mallards? We saw several nice flocks, and actually called in a couple...way behind us

Ready to shoot something-

Getting ready to do a lot of calling

Hiding?

So it was a nice day to be out, and after these 2 pics were taken, we started picking up our gear in the dark...I cant wait to go again, it was really cool to see some of the large flocks that were flying over us.

Nice pictures and I'm sure a pleasurable time but I don't enjoy the days we have all had watching that many birds flying out of range.....can you use lead shot in a field like that?  Three inch #4 buckshot is good medicine out to 100 yards or so.  One pellet will bring a goose down.  HI MIKE -- WE MISS YOU!!!

The days of shooting waterfowl with lead are over forever-

Yep, it was cold but nothing like what I did Monday, or last week in the sleet

If I could travel back in time, there are two things I'd want to do in the early 70s. Pheasant hunt in Central IL and shoot ducks with number 4 lead

Nice pics TomKat, ya that day there was "too many" birds up at once, hard to get birds to commit with 5,000 flying around in other directions.
