Well that could be off topic also unless we can find out how much a pronhorn hide is worth and we still dont know what a goat pelt is worth.....The Mexicans eat a lot of goat meat in the high desert west of Monterrey.....I wonder if they buy and sell goat pelts.....of course they aren't trophy mountain goats they are just herd goats kept for milk and meat.....now that's off topic.....ehh Kelly huh??

Man-O-Man, I just got a hold of a fur buyer from around my area and he informed me that most hide are pulling in about 3-6 bucks.  Looks like my plan is down the drains.  I'll probably go hunting and practice my skinning/stretching hides and maybe try to find out how to DIY tanning.  That way if the market ever does pick up I'll be ready.  I'm sure the market will pick up next year rolleyes

TK, I went and looked on ebay and it appears that you have to have a tanned pelt to get sanything above $10.    I'm just not capable of that kind of work at this time, and I might not ever be.... Skyline, Wyote or anyone else... How do you tan a pelt??

I send them to a tannery.

It's not worth all the mess to do it myself. I tanned about a dozen coyotes one time and that was enough for me!!!!!!! Acid, salt, brine, breaking down the hides as they were drying. Tough, tough, going, and they didn't turn out near as well as a tannery can do.

I agree.....use a tannery! ! !  Breaking down hides is back breaking and not a short process.  If you were just going to do one or two for yourself, then I'd say do it and have fun with the experience.......but if you are going to do this with multiple pelts use a tannery! ! ! thumbsup
