I have been in contact with a place in central OK that catches truely wild hogs and turns them loose in a 100 acre fenced area of heavy timber...it brings back memories of "bitey" coming at me with a worthless .357 mag in my hand...so I am still looking for the right mix. I wanted to let everyone know I am working on it-
The pictures of the hogs were amazing, there are a LOT of wild hogs in OK....A LOT

TomKat...
There are some places not far from me, down here in the Ozarks and not far from Rolla, who have the same kids of hogs on a lot more than 100 acres. Might be worth checkin' them out too.

TomKat...
Several years ago, 10 or more, I hunted a couple times at the old Show-Me Safari's down near Licking and the owner, Mark, I believe that was his name, told me his hogs were trapped in Texas so I know they were free range. If I remember the details correctly he had 1300+ acres, half of which was fenced and the other half not. On the unfenced half he guided for turkeys and whitetail. I took a 225 lb., black boar down there and a couple others. I know of a couple other places down here and I'm pretty sure all their hogs also come from Texas. Once their behind a fence free range or not doesn't much matter as a hog goes wild pretty quick....hence the phrase, "hog wild". It's generally accepted that in three generations a hog completely reverts to their former conformation and disposition. I understand the place has changed hands so my info could be incorrect now but I could find out about it.
I had some personal issues with hunting behind a fence but did it anyway and I don't regret it. No, it isn't the same as fair chase but I figgered if the place was big enough it would suit my purpose. 650+ acres in these hills is purty good sized. That and I really don't relish the thought of free range hogs in MIssouri. I gotta agree with MDC on that point. I'm not afraid of them....been around hogs most of my life...they're just too dadblamed destructive and dangerous to domestic stock....to say nothing of what they do to small game and even fawns if they find them. Darn things will eat anything...sure a heck of a lot of fun to hunt tho!

Bluescout.............yes a long drive!
Baretta Babe, appreciate the offer and if this happens I may take you up on that. My problem is I will not hunt behind fence.........period. It is a personal issue with me. By doing it, I am supporting it and I will not do that. Others can and that is their choice...........but not mine.
Besides, I raise a few oinkers every year for us and friends/neighbours, butcher them and do the curing and smoking. We have good farm raised pork in the freezer.........no chemicals or drugs, just grain. I would be going wild pig hunting for the hunt, not the meat.....bring a cooler of it home and give the rest to my hunting partners.

I think they revert back in 2 generations, although 3 is the accepted number. There are plenty of free range hogs and from what I can tell they are another type of varmit that needs to be cleaned up. They just taste better than most varmints. I am working on it...

Have ya'll seen the Hogs they set traps for in Oklahoma?
I hope the hogs they hunt down there are in better shape than the ones they used to trap.. All that I saw when I Lived there years ago were skinny and not much to them.
Hog Hunt'n in Tenn, is alot of fun with Handguns.
