Rick grew up hunting ducks and geese on the flat plains in North Central Iowa. Not always the most hospitable environment for waterfowl, Rick and crew learned that good calling made a BIG difference in the result of the harvest. His interest in custom calls was first sparked when a buddy showed him a hedge single reed duck call made by Darrel Wright of Boone, IA. It was only a matter of time before the interest turned into a serious hobby, and from a hobby to an obsession. Through much trial and error, Rick spent hours at his lathe in the garage perfecting his craft. Rowdy Game Calls was the first business to come from this meager beginning. From Rowdy to a brief stint with Rowdy-D.O.A. Call Company, Rick is now ready to launch his newest venture: Rick Hahne Calls, a family project.
Rick, along with his wife, Michelle, are the proud parents of six up-and-coming duck and goose callers and hunters. Lexi, 14, a semi-retired contest caller, is the first employee of our company. She helps her dad polish and tune calls, and helps with the day-to-day running of the business. Ashley, 10, while not a contest caller, is a devoted Rick Hahne Calls enthusiast. She enjoys going along on the hunt but leaves the calling to dad and her other siblings. Gunnar, 8, is our future World Champion Duck Caller, Champion of Champions. If you've ever been to a contest and seen Rick, you've probably seen Gunnar at his side. With a couple of wins and top finishes under his belt already, you will be seeing more of him in the future. Kerry Joy, 6, & Lauren, 3 1/2, wear their calls around their necks and help daddy clean up the shop, along with giving him call lessons. Theron, 14 months, can usually be found with a call hanging out of his mouth. Like most of the other kids have in the past, he is currently cutting a set of molars on that call.
Rick Hahne Calls is devoted to duck and goose calling and hunting. As you can see, it is not just an obsession, it's a way of life. Your custom call making needs are as important as ours. Meeting the needs of hard-core waterfowlers and callers one call at a time. Thanks for visiting Rick Hahne Calls, and God Bless You.Rick Hahne Calls LLC. 423 North Borgman Rd. The difference is Rick is a real pro and I am a hobbiest. Heck, I'm not smart enough to dasign a consistant box call much less build them.
The designs and trials he must have gone through to develope his amazing duck and goose calls would probably fill a book. Just truning acrylic is an art in itself.

We had our Hunting and Fishing Extravaganza last Thursday and Cabelas was a major sponsor and provided at least a dozen information or participation booths one of the booths was waterfowl call demo with a couple of their pros and quite a few calls...one that I blew I believe was a Hahne and it sure was sweet...highball - feeding chuckle and quack....Cabelas also provided close to $1000 in door prizes.....others provided booths and door prizes.....Dinner was all you can eat Pulled pork or beef brisket from Bandanas BBQ with all the trimmings....the evening was capped off with a talk by Rocky McElveen telling of his exploits as a quite well known Alaskan Hunting and Fishing guide and a drawing for a $4000 guided hunt in Alaska....I didn't win anything but had a ball.....Noticeably absent and apparently not interested was Bass Pro....About 800 attended....

Well, I appreciate the remarks aout being a pro and all but I am an enthusiast. Poor Valley sells himself short on his own call making skills I assure you! The start of most of my calls started in my garage from trial and error as well as a very large pile of scrap.
Being a little persistent, OK alot persistent and continual calling practice helped me to develop both my skills as a call maker and caller. Contests, Hunting, and call making just became a way for me to stay involved in something that I love All year long. I am still continually trying to improve my calls and calling, being satisfied is just not my nature.
I appreciate everyones input and kind words. It is because of folks like you that I do what I do!
